After reading this it makes me wonder if platforms are dead. Medium doesn't feel like it's got much of a future on its current path. If promoting on Facebook is bad, and you're not winning the popularity contest that is boosting, without distribution, there's no way your work gets seen. Suddenly, I see why some think Mediums heyday is over and everyone's jumping to substack, patreon, or whatever they can find. What Tony's done is discourage some decent writers that had something to offer.
Boost hacking is still gambling. You can hit all the requisites known for a boost, or 9 out of 10, and still not get boosted. The number of people who've shared they got a boost is miniscule at best.
Overall, I predict that Medium will see a substantial loss in revenue from memberships, more members leave, and the cycle repeat over and over until a small fraction is all that's left. It feels pretty elitist, but that's how the changes read to begin with.
