If by understand racism you mean blindly think that there are not different viewpoints, I'm not going to do that. Racism is always going to be a problem until everyone moves forward and stops judging based on the color of skin. That's the same problem with sexism. As long as we are living in the past and not moving forward and toward positive change, racism is stuck where it is. When everybody drops their preconceived notions about everybody else, starts judging based on actions, character, and the person rather than what they look like, them racism would be gone. However, members of both sides of the argument don't seem to really want it to go away.
