Seeing A Day When Online Self-Publishing Platforms Like Vocal And Medium Are Tagged On The Toe Dead
After writing and self-publishing on three different platforms, it’s not hard to imagine the death of online publishing. Platforms like Vocal, Medium, and others all suffer from the same issues. While we like to think that we can find ways around this, the truth is a bit more complicated.
After a couple of years of writing on these platforms, trying to become a better writer, and trying to find a way to make extra money while doing so, I’m predicting that they have a shelf life. I’ll go a step further and predict that some of them are near their expiration date.
Vocal
Vocal convinced people to join its platform by advertising that you could make up to 6,000 dollars writing for them. There is the catch, the words up to. What they didn’t publicize widely was the math. And, since they all run on algorithms math is all that matters.
For every one million reads you earn $6,000 if you’re a paid member, at $9.99. How hard is it to get a million reads a month? That’s a great question. There might be two or three people out of what was once near 30,000. Nobody has done it in under a year and the only person I’ve seen admit they made it that far admitted it took 2 plus years to achieve that benchmark.
