Mei long was a small, bird-like dinosaur from the Early Cretaceous period in China. Its name means “sleeping dragon,” inspired by the fossil’s curled-up posture, reminiscent of a sleeping bird. Mei long was very small, measuring just 0.5 meters (1.6 feet) in length. This remarkable fossil is one of the best-preserved examples of a non-avian dinosaur, providing crucial evidence of the close relationship between dinosaurs and birds. Mei long likely had feathers and was capable of short bursts of flight or gliding.
