The Miracle Of Accidentally Taking A Bullet
Anyone who’s ever been hit by a bullet will attest that it hurts. What happens next can be nothing short of a miracle. This is the story of the loud bang, the shock, and the day that I met a .357 Magnum round the hard way.
In 1997, there was an entire week of range training. It was the second time I’d gone through the training. Over the years, I have heard of many accidents. Unfortunately, introducing humans into the mix with firearms leaves open the possibility of mistakes.
One of the things that happens during a beginner's training, or academy course to meet the state requirements, is called a load/reload drill. It’s practice for when you have to manipulate your ammo and weapon during shooting scenarios.
I was on the second string of people when we heard the range instructor yelling about doing it wrong. Several of the people using revolvers caught their ammo in their hands when they were told to reload. Tuna, the range instructor, made a valid point.
