It exacts a terrible toll

Faces in the crowd could not be more strange to my eye,

None of them matter at that moment in time,

Sitting idly, watching the world pass me by,

The faces passing by me are there, but none of them are so sublime,

It’s just one face that I constantly seek out,

Just that one face that I remember on this Earth,

Would I ever see it again, I have little left but doubt,

To see that face again, a glorious rebirth,

Longing fills my nights and days,

Forced to keep living this life surreal,

It would haunt me for a lifetime in endlessly painful ways,

Pushing in ways it’s only sorrow I feel,

Missed my chance and failed to fill that void,

In the throws, it’s always you I see,

So many other faces I wish to avoid,

Until it’s you standing in front of me,

Missed chances consume my empty pit of a soul,

Wishing I hadn’t waited so damned long,

The story tortured me like the pharaohs of old,
