There are problems with issuing heavy sentences for this nightmare of a cases from January 6th.

1. The Democrats fought the idea of prosecuting many rioters because of politics even after city's burned, government buildings were burning, people were hurt, and many, many officers attacked. Being excessive with the January 6th idiots sends a message that the extreme right can weaponize against the country.

2. Refitt's obviously an extremist. Regardless of intent, he needs to be punished for his actual crimes if we believe in the system. After working in the system and seeing people arrested for things because cops and authorities thought they had intent on other crimes it's a mistake to go down that road. The last thing we need to birth are martyrs for the exremist right, or left for that matter.

Just my opinion, but I'd imagine he'll get between 5 and 11 even after arguing for mitigation. Anyone carrying a gun into a government building is in violation of a firearms offense. Carrying a gun in the commission of a crime will mean aggravating circumstances apply. I doub Reffitt gets anywhere close to the 2 year mark.
