These were the five worst reasons people use. Of course it's an opinion piece but they were there. I did call them excuses...I think I'll change that in the story.

It was inconvenient. Many of the single-use plastics that are littering our oceans and our lands are conveniences that people don't want to give up. Even though they are made with petroleum from the oil industry, and fill the pockets of big oil that people continue to bitch about, people continue to use them instead of an alternative. Consider the plastic Walmart bags. How many hundreds of millions of those do you think will get used every year, then discarded?

I didn't believe the science? Look at the drought at Lake Mead, Lake Oroville, or any other place that is facing a record drought. Look at the deforestation being done by rampaging wildfires, spurred by record high temps in parts of the world.

Electric cars were too new. Someone said that one day. I stopped and wondered, when does ten-year-old tech stop being new. Imagine the money saved on gas if you changed to electric.

I didn't have time. Who plans on filling a refillable water bottle, making sure they take reusable bags to the store, making sure they'd charge their electric cars.

Greed? This is probably the one that will get us. Greed drives people to do things against their best interests. It always has and there are no signs of that changing. When it comes to greed, anything is worth the price of making a buck.
