We can only hope that's true. They're testing the DART craft idea very soon. So far, scientists have ideas but nothing proven that will work. A missile launch is considered a last ditch effort at this point in time according to the papers. I imagine they'll test that theory before Apophis is closer so they have an idea of if it'll work.
