Hopefully, the changes that Medium announced would take effect on August 1st do all the writers using the platform some good. When it comes to what’s really wrong on Medium, part of it is the fake readers and people who don’t read at all. They’re the same ones that mark your Facebook posts and hope you’ll see those claps and then give them five, ten, or even 20 minutes of your time.

What Medium didn’t do, is make it any easier. With over 2100 followers and 23 stories in July, July 2023 continues a downhill spiral. $37 dollars and change, another month another drop. Things are so slim that out of 2100 followers, I struggle to find 20 readers, most days coming in below that number.

I can see why articles voicing disappointment with Medium are so popular. Having less than one percent of your followers ever read anything you write is a disheartening experience. Having so many claps and views that are faked makes Medium an experience that is getting less and less worth the time and investment it takes to write an interesting story.
