What Would You Have Done: A True Story Of An Unknown Crime Being Revealed
Officers face many decisions throughout their careers. Some are to be expected, but others come out of the blue and leave you with questions and your feelings. This is a true story of one of those nights.
An Unknown Crime?
I faced many challenging situations during a career that spanned over two decades. Working in a correctional center can be trying on a good day and distressing on a bad one. Sometimes the lines between your professional world and your world would bleed together.
This happened more than a decade ago. It still is one of the more bizarre sets of circumstances I ever witnessed, and because of how things played out remained a mystery. But that happens when witnesses and families are uncooperative.
While working on booking one night a city police officer came into the jail with another prisoner. That was all part of the job. I’d handled intakes on people thousands, maybe tens of thousands of times.
The city officers would put a person into a holding cell from the garage side. In the booking area, we would deal with them from the opposite side of the intake cell. That was when this story got confusing.
