Pay attention, my fellow writer. Here’s a common sense tidbit that you’ll want to remember if you want to get more reads. Don’t be shocked. I’m not the first person to comment on this growing problem.

If you’re writing on Medium and you’re posting stories, chances are you’ll be looking for others to read your stories. Here’s one guaranteed way not to get your story read. The fact that so many people are oblivious to this blowing up in their faces is almost hysterical.

So you’re going to link drop. You have no intention of reading the story or you changed your mind. Maybe you clicked on a link that you didn’t consider worth the time it would take to read the story, and didn’t want to be bothered by opening another window and letting it play on speechify.

Your Mistake

Just because Facebook will alert a user to your comment and like, doesn’t mean they’re going to jump on your story like a dog on a bitch in heat. When you’ve already commented read and clapped, one minute after the story was posted, you’re obviously hoping they aren’t paying attention to the timing.

Facebook notates how long ago the comment was left. So if it was one minute after a story was posted on Facebook and the story was five minutes or…
